Small But Mighty: Meet a Contender for the World’s Smallest Dog!

An adorable tiny Yorkshire Terrier the size of a can of soda is vying to be named the world’s smallest dog. Little Meysi was one of 5 puppies born in a litter in Jarocin, Poland. During delivery, she was so small that her owner mistook her for a bit of placenta and nearly discarded the tissue before noticing it moving. So far, at three months old, she is 7cm tall (2.75″), 12cm long (about 4.75″) and weighs just 150g – about the same as a hamster.

It’s clear on this video that Meysi is a healthy girl with the typical terrier feisty attitude.

Meysi is still too small to play with her siblings who are three times her size. Her owner, Anna Pohl, has to be very cautious with her to ensure her safety. In fact, it was a battle to keep her alive as Meysi was overpowered by her four larger siblings for milk. After dropping weight, Pohl resorted to round-the-clock feedings with a syringe.

She is not expected to get much bigger. Baring a growth spurt, Meysi could be a contender for the world’s smallest dog, but that can only be determined once she reaches 12 months, according to regulations set by theĀ Guinness World World Records.

The current record holder for smallest dog, in terms of height, is Boo Boo from Kentucky. She is a long-haired chihuahua measuring in at just 4 inches tall! For more about Boo Boo, visit Guinness World Records.

  1. That is the cutest and funniest thing i have ever seen! the only prob (besides it being very easy to step on her) is that she’s too small for doggy clothes!
