Holiday Travel Plans? We Can Help!

Many of us are getting ready for holiday travel, starting with Thanksgiving. Travel statistics are projected to be higher this year for both driving and flying, in spite of increased airfares and gas prices. Some folks are opting to bring their pets to save on pet boarding fees. Also contributing to the trend of traveling with pets is the fact that more Americans are viewing their pets as family members.

Here is what you need to know to make traveling with (or without) your pet a smooth endeavor. Continue reading

Feline Friday: Cats Lead the Way Towards Promoting Peace

One of the things that is difficult to mend after an election is the divide created by the polarization that seems inherent to politics. So in an effort to promote peace and harmony, I give you Cats with Unlikely Friends. If the species erroneously known for being aloof can be kind to others, we can embrace each other as fellow Americans and world citizens. Continue reading

Pawsitive Program Lets Teen Train Guide Dog

For those concerned about the self absorption of the average suburban teen, my coworker that works with girls as a volleyball coach confirms that sometimes it’s tough working with today’s  young people that are sometimes over indulged. But she was happy to share this story of a young woman in their volleyball program, Melissa Petrick, a Junior in Highlands Ranch, Colorado.

Melissa’s  constant companion is Flynn, an attentive, handsome boy that came from a good family, that any mother would approve of. He’s so adorable that Melissa’s classmates might be a little jealous, especially since the normal school rules of PDA (Public Display of Affection) have been waived in their relationship. Dog Lovers Will Want This for Christmas!

We’ve promoted some of Seth Casteel’s amazing underwater dog photography, especially during the dog days of summer as sort of a subliminal cool-off message when it was just so dang hot! His images went viral with over 150 million views/shares this last year. (We like to think we helped a little.)

Seth Casteel has just released a new coffee-table book that we will all want to get our paws on. At $20, this will be the perfect gift for yourself and other dog lovers this Christmas! It’s available at Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Also check out the 2013 wall calendar as well. You may be wondering why we’re promoting a book that we don’t even carry. Not only is Mr. Casteel a talented photographer with a gift for capturing animals with an amazing range of expressions, he’s just an all-around good guy and animal advocate. Continue reading

Meet the Breed: The Pomeranian

It’s been said that people often choose pets that reflect their own personality and even their appearance. I found this to be true with my first exposure to the Pomeranian dog breed. I vividly remember a pretty, petite girl in my neighborhood with lots of honey-colored hair and brown eyes who lived in my neighborhood where I grew up. She had these beautiful little fluffy dogs that matched her hair color perfectly. They made a striking picture as they walked in the sun! Though the girl seemed quiet, I remember the dogs being rather outspoken for such small creatures!   Continue reading

Feline Friday: Super Cats Weathered Sandy

Dear Gentle Readers,

At BaxterBoo.com, we’ve been concerned about our furry and non-furry friends on the East Coast and the catastrophic storm they’ve been through this week. I have heart for the stray cat populations because of my own experience of not knowing where my forever home would be… not once, but twice. So I am pleased to give you an update on some of these cats in the affected areas. Continue reading
