Last week we talked about Breed Specific Legislation, which pertains to laws and regulations that are being set in place to prevent people from owning certain dog breeds. We also talked about how a dog that lashes out for various reasons can cause the entire breed to be looked down upon. Sometimes dogs can react due to the fact that they have aggression. But why? Well a recent study states that aggression in dogs may be due to the fact that they are in pain. Continue reading
Do you remember the “Homeward Bound” movies? If you aren’t familiar with them, they are children’s movies that tell about the adventures of two dogs and a cat that get separated from their family and have to find their way back home! Continue reading
Do you remember those days in grade school when you were allowed to have a snack in the classroom? Then one day Billy threw his pudding across the room and ruined snack break for everyone.

Since I was a little kid, I have always wanted a dog that would play Frisbee. Of course all of my dogs growing up would play fetch with a tennis ball; yet, when it came to a Frisbee, it was a different story. More often than not, they would run after it and then once it hit the ground, they’d run back to you, leaving the Frisbee behind. Now, with a pet of my own, I am on a mission to teach my dog how to play Frisbee like the pros! Continue reading
Recently I took a trip down to the local shelter. I highly recommend you take a trip there yourself to get an idea of the reality of the pet situation in your neighborhood. Rows upon rows of dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens all looking for a warm home and loving owners. I had no intention of getting another pet while I was there; I simply wanted to have a look for myself. The last time I went to the shelter, I was too young to remember it, and I thought it would be a good idea to refresh my memory.
I spent a few hours taking some of the dogs out of their kennels and simply playing fetch with them, just to give them a chance to get out for a while. Some people may call it teasing, but I think it is better to give them a little break then no break at all. Continue reading

What breeds are best suited for apartment living? Well that may be the wrong question to ask. When looking for a dog that would be happy living in an apartment, you need to look for energy levels. Even within the same litter of pups, there are ones that are more energetic then the others.
Exercise is crucial for any dog. You have to think of your home like a dog cage, just because you let your dog outside, doesn’t mean he has gotten the exercise he needs. Of course when you only have an apartment, your dog has an even smaller cage to live in.
