What are the holidays without the classic, slightly silly sweaters? Actually, my teenage daughter specifically goes to thrift stores for “ugly” sweaters to complete her holiday look. The tackier the better! I wouldn’t go so far as to say ours are tacky, but putting a dog or even a cat in a sweater is sure to make a statement and the season toasty and bright!

We’ve been having unseasonably warm weather this year. In fact, we’ve even had a couple of flies bothering us in the warehouse, which is just not normal for Colorado in the winter. Today, however, it actually got cold! And it’s a good thing, because it’s finally starting to feel a bit more like Christmas!
But getting pets ready for winter is actually serious business. Very young and elderly pets are particularly susceptible to the cold and need extra protection. Hairless cats will also appreciate a layer of warmth. Smaller breeds like Chihuahuas and Yorkshire Terriers especially need insulation from the cold. This may include indoor clothing as well. We are having way too much fun here at BaxterBoo orchestrating daily sales with goofy themes in our 12 Days of Dogtober campaign! Apparently, upping the fun factor is a good thing as pet costumes are the largest growing market in the Halloween industry. This may be due to the fact that, while some of us may not feel comfortable dressing ourselves in ridiculous fashions, there is just something intrinsically funnier about an annoyed-looking cat or a silly dog dressed in costumes.
This got me wondering about the history of dressing pets since we’re not so self absorbed as to believe we are the first or the only ones to do so (though I must say we do have a really fun time with it, especially with all the modern tools and materials available to us.) Continue reading →

Of course the pet costumes are always a treat, but we also love an excuse to send our buyers out to find the latest and greatest products for our wonderful customers! Did you miss me, friends? I went off the grid to Alaska! I had plans to keep you updated, but I had no Internet, and no phone. No Facebook. No BaxterBoo! Gasp! It was tough, let me tell you. Boating, fishing, zip lining, shopping, eating… sigh. I need a vacation to recover! Continue reading →
Have you ever felt overwhelmed about the needs of this world, and wondered how you could make a difference? Many of us have learned to cope by sealing our hearts up against the hurts we see, believing that we are unable to make much of a difference as just one person. Continue reading →
It’s a little intimidating to blog now that so many of you folks have recently subscribed and are expecting deep, profound nuggets to chew on! I’m having performance anxiety! So I thought if I couldn’t be thought provoking, I could at least go for heroic. And nothing is more heroic than saving lives, right? With the warmer weather approaching, we often head for bodies of water to stay cool. And of course you will take your best friend, but there are things to consider before your outing on the boat, to the pool, or other aquatic playground. Continue reading →
Shanna Moakler, a reality TV star from California, is warning fellow small dog owners about the risks of losing pets to wildlife after one of her dogs was seriously injured and another disappeared after a hawk flew off with it.She had installed coyote-proof fences, knowing that predators were problematic in her area, but it wasn’t enough to protect them from an aerial attack.
