Best of the Best: Tips for Keeping Cool During the Dog Days of Summer

Baby, it’s hot outside! And if you’re like me, it’s hot inside too since I’m probably the only person in the U.S. suburbs that doesn’t have air conditioning. Yes, I hear your collective gasp. So we have developed tips for keeping our cool. Like people, dogs can suffer from sunburns, dehydration, and heat stroke.  But for dogs, keeping cool can be especially tricky since they can only regulate body temperature through sweating through their foot pads, by panting, and drinking water.

For some breeds, like this pug and other snub-nosed varieties, breathing issues can be exacerbated during hot spells, so keeping cool for them is particularly important. But all dogs must be looked after in the heat. Continue reading

It’s a little intimidating to blog now that so many of you folks have recently subscribed and are expecting deep, profound nuggets to chew on! I’m having performance anxiety! So I thought if I couldn’t be thought provoking, I could at least go for heroic. And nothing is more heroic than saving lives, right?
