We’ve been having unseasonably warm weather this year. In fact, we’ve even had a couple of flies bothering us in the warehouse, which is just not normal for Colorado in the winter. Today, however, it actually got cold! And it’s a good thing, because it’s finally starting to feel a bit more like Christmas!
But getting pets ready for winter is actually serious business. Very young and elderly pets are particularly susceptible to the cold and need extra protection. Hairless cats will also appreciate a layer of warmth. Smaller breeds like Chihuahuas and Yorkshire Terriers especially need insulation from the cold. This may include indoor clothing as well.
How to Stay Warm Indoors
Drafty doors and windows, cold tile floors, and traffic in and out of doors can make your pets shiver even inside. For smaller, short haired, or delicate pets, we offer a variety of options for staying toasty. Nesting beds for burrowing into paired with pajamas are perfect for catnaps and not simply for nighttime.
Another option for staying warm and looking cute are our ever-popular hoodies! We have a large selection of styles and sizes to fit virtually any pet. Go ahead and surprise us! We’d love to see some photo submissions of exotic pets too! I’m sure we have something for ferrets, rabbits and pot-bellied pigs! Hoodies are a great indoor layer or for cool days outside. This human wardrobe staple is sure to become your pet’s favorite too! Be sure to check out our sweaters as another indoor option.
Our nonskid socks are a great item for winter for keeping pets warm. The other helpful feature about these socks are the non-skid pads, particularly for older dogs struggling to get around on slick surfaces. If you’ve watched an elderly dog with joint pain try to get up off of a cold, tile or wood floor, you can almost feel their aches. The grip pads on our specially-designed pet socks can keep your pet warm and safe from injuries. Our customers report that their dogs are able to get up off the floor like when they were young with the help of these novel pet socks.
Keeping Warm Outside
For many climates, the main issue in keeping warm is staying dry. We offer a huge selection of rain gear that can be layered over our hoodies for an easy indoor-outdoor transition. Most of our rain jackets also feature reflective piping and fabrics to keep dogs visible even in the low-light conditions of a storm.
Snow can be a tricky condition for our four-legged friends, especially for longer-haired breeds. While fur does insulate pets from the cold, it can also collect balls of snow. This is particularly problematic for the hair between the pads. These accumulations can turn icy and cut into the pads, making it difficult to walk. For this reason, boots and snow pants are the keys to ensure your dog is able to keep up with you in your outdoor activities as long as you do! Boots also protect dogs’ feet from ice melt chemicals that can be harmful to them.
For the ultimate in snow protection, our Muttluks dog snow suits offer the heaviest protection available for serious snow conditions.
We know that our customers love taking care of their pets’ winter needs, and we want to be sure to help you! Our customer service agents are always ready to help you with any product or sizing questions, which is helpful for these important winter-weather items.
