In fact, both dogs and cats sleep more hours than their humans, so having a comfortable place to bunk is important to the health and happiness of your pet. Take Your Dog to Work Day is this Friday, June 22. Hopefully you’ve already discussed the possibility of bringing your pooch to work with your boss. After all, one wouldn’t want to miss out on a national holiday! I mean, this is up there with National Waffle Iron Day on June 29! Okay, not really. Baby, it’s hot outside! And if you’re like me, it’s hot inside too since I’m probably the only person in the U.S. suburbs that doesn’t have air conditioning. Yes, I hear your collective gasp. So we have developed tips for keeping our cool. Like people, dogs can suffer from sunburns, dehydration, and heat stroke. But for dogs, keeping cool can be especially tricky since they can only regulate body temperature through sweating through their foot pads, by panting, and drinking water.
For some breeds, like this pug and other snub-nosed varieties, breathing issues can be exacerbated during hot spells, so keeping cool for them is particularly important. But all dogs must be looked after in the heat. Continue reading →
