Seattle’s Children’s Hospital went the extra mile for 16-year-old Maga Barzallo Sockemtickem, who spent 11 months in the hospital while waiting for a compatible bone marrow donor. Because of her suppressed immune function, she was unable to have the comfort of her beloved cat Merry, so the hospital social media coordinator suggested making a post on their Facebook homepage requesting cat photos to encourage their young charge. I was recently getting my van’s oil changed where I was conversing with a nice lady who had two Shih Tzus. She apologized that one of them was still learning her manners as she was just a puppy. And then she teared up saying that she’d lost her last Shih Tzu due to a rattlesnake bite at one of the local parks.
Yesterday, I heard that the neighbor’s cat had been playing with a tiny snake in her garage. The way the snake was coiling and striking, she didn’t think it was the regular garden variety. If it were a king snake, she wanted to let it live, because they are good at controlling rodents and other pests. Continue reading

What breeds are best suited for apartment living? Well that may be the wrong question to ask. When looking for a dog that would be happy living in an apartment, you need to look for energy levels. Even within the same litter of pups, there are ones that are more energetic then the others.
Exercise is crucial for any dog. You have to think of your home like a dog cage, just because you let your dog outside, doesn’t mean he has gotten the exercise he needs. Of course when you only have an apartment, your dog has an even smaller cage to live in.
It has come to my attention that I am not the only one who finds cat behavior somewhat difficult to understand. Ms. Boo can be charming (and purring) one moment, and nipping me the next. As an ambassador for peace and refinement, I felt our fans could appreciate my observations to better understand these complex creatures. Continue reading
